Performing this Sunday the 17th at the Sander’s Theatre in Cambridge is the Boston Conservatory Orchestra, as governed under principal conductor, Bruce Hangen. Accompanying Hangen is 2011 Concerto Competition winner, Brian Sherwood, who is scheduled to grace the audience with his viola performance during Hindemith’s Der Schwanendreher.

The epitomizing piece of the night is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7; its four movements create a whirlwind of harmonic emotion, all within a matter of forty minutes.  The symphony’s second movement, Allegretto is considered to be one of Beethoven’s greatest pieces, but the entire symphony has gathered the most recognition in comparison to Beethoven’s eight other symphonies.

Hangen has been leading the Boston Conservatory Orchestra in addition to serving the title as music director of the Indian Hill Symphony, where he has served for thirteen years and still counting. Prior to the recital at 1 p.m., Dr. Elizabeth Seitz of the Conservatory’s music history faculty will present a lecture prior to concert.
