A Rock and Roll Yard Sale

Normally when one thinks of a yard sale, worn hoodies, beat up soccer cleats, and nicked bureaus come to mind. However, this June Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, often referred to as the ICA, presents its own sort of yard sale called Vinyl Fridays. Granted, you won’t find worn out clothing nor unwanted home décor, but you’ll uncover treasures from the Rock n’ Roll era including weekly musical entertainment from records spun by various DJ’s. Chris and Jennifer Daltry, of What Cheer Antiques in Providence are organizing the weekly events. Two Rock n’ Roll yard sales and two Collectors’ Showcases make up the four Fridays in June.

Friday, June 3rd is the first of the four yard sales that constitute the event before the exhibit at the ICA. The ICA Rock n’ Roll Yard Sales, held on June 3 and June 24 from 6-9 p.m., feature eclectic records and high end, yet inexpensive options offered by the area’s best sellers including What Cheer Records, Teenbeat Records, and In Your Ear Records, to name a few.

The Collectors Showcases back to back on June 10 and 17 from 6-9 p.m. offer a glimpse into the local scene. In the middle of June collectors from around the area have the chance to show off some of their most treasured vinyl. Every Friday is unique, each one with its own flair for all of its viewers. Every week, the ICA suggests that patrons take time to check out the exhibit, The Record: Contemporary and Vinyl, before attending the events, either the yard sale or the showcase; with museum admission, the events are free. The ICA has been the trendsetter regarding art in Boston for 75 years. Similar to its Rock n’ Roll Yard Sales and Collector Showcases, the Institute of Contemporary Art is infamous for its innovative exhibitions and creative processes.
