On Saturday, June 25, Boston’s oldest B-Boy/Girl Crew, The Floorlords will return home for a special 30th anniversary performance at The Barbara Lee Family Foundation Theater at the Institute of Contemporary Art. The performance titled Return the Burn, features current and former company members and also guest performances by Dynasty Rockers from France and Fresh Format from Canada. Part of the performance will include a hip-hop DJ demonstration and a classic b-boy dance battle.
The Floorlords helped shape hip-hop in Boston and have performed for thousands of people. Getting their start on the Boston streets in 1981, The Floorlords have come a long way. They have toured the world and performed with many artists including: Madonna, Run DMC, P. Diddy, Missy Elliot and the Beastie Boys. They have also made appearances in film such as Krush Groove and Southie and in television on The Phil Donohue Show and Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.
They have also won many local and international competitions and Co-Founder and President Lino Delgado was named on El Planeta’s “Powermeter” list. He was recognized as a mentor for young people who breakdance in order to stay from violence and as an “institution unto himself in the local breakdancing world.”
Return the Burn is presented by The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (ICA) and co-presented by Alliger Arts. Alliger Arts, founded by Jeremy Alliger presents performances that break preconceived notions and stereotypes about identity and possibilities. Alliger Arts works on projects that involve creating, touring, and presenting artistic gatherings and festivals from jazz tap to hip-hop to aerial. They are currently touring GIMP and Stan Strickland’s, Coming up for Air: An AutoJAZZography, an award-winning solo jazz theater production.
