The Berlin Philharmonic has been performing classical pieces since 1882, and has appeared under the banner of the Celebrity Series of Boston eight times since its inception in 1955. On November 15, 2009 at 3:00 pm, The Berlin Philharmonic will once again visit Boston, performing at Symphony Hall with conductor Sir Simon Rattle.

Rattle who was born in Liverpool and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, toured extensively in his tenure as Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and has enjoyed a close collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for years. He is a regular guest conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic, with which he has recorded the complete Beethoven symphonies and piano concertos (with Alfred Brendel) and is also a Principal Artist of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Founding Patron of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
