Tim Crouch is a theater man. He is an actor, playwright, producer, director and one-man travelling show. His works have received critical attention both in his native England and in the worldwide locations he has taken them to. The production company dedicated to his work, news from nowhere, is making its Boston debut at The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston with two Tim Crouch shows.

The first, presented for one show only, is my arm, the story of a man who spends thirty years of his life with one arm above his head. The man becomes something of a medical anomaly and icon of the New York art scene. Told through live–action performance, digital film and the animation of everyday objects supplied by the audience before each performance, the piece explores opened to critical and audience acclaim when it premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in 2003. my arm explores modern arm, the grotesque and how the things that we do when we’re 10–years–old stays with us.

Presented Friday, Nov. 13, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 14—15, 2 p.m, ENGLAND, a theatrical piece conceived to be performed in a gallery space. The narrative follows Tim Crouch and Hannah Ringham playing the same character – a cheerful if naïve tour guide who takes the audience on a trip that turns darker than expected. ENGLAND is the story of one thing placed inside another: a heart inside another person’s body, a culture inside another country’s culture, theater inside a gallery, a character inside an actor, a play inside its audience. The play contains searing observations about how people choose to value things most dear to them, exposing the stark contrasts between the boundless pursuit of health and happiness and the hidden cost of that pursuit.
