With only three actors and a small performance space, Boston Lyric Stage has brought Shipwrecked! (full name: Shipwrecked: An Entertainment: “The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont” (as Told by Himself) to life. The play—now showing through December 20—brings the fantastical adventures of seafarer Louis de Rougemont to life. In the story, de Rougemont leaves his home at sixteen to find adventure (and a good degree of danger too) at the high seas. When he returns home to Victorian England more than thirty years later the recanting of his ocean exploits seem too incredible to believe.

The lack of brevity and protracted wordage in the title mirrors the tale that is told. Complete with a tsunami, deserted island and plenty of close calls, has enough action to make any audience member satisfied. The tall-tale nature of the subject matter and the whimsical production makes Shipwrecked! appealing to audience members of all ages. The three actors starring in the production (Allyn Burrows, Angie Jepson, Daniel Berger-Jones) create a cacophony of character and sound as they embody a multitude of people and produce sound effects on-stage to aid in the shipwreck tale. Funny and charming, Shipwrecked! is the perfect play for theater-goers of all ages.

Shipwrecked! is directed by Scott LaFeber. Its run at The Lyric Stage of Boston continues through December 20, 2009. For additional information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.lyricstage.com.
