In an exciting performance opportunity, the Mark Morris Dance Group will present the Boston premiere of Mozart Dances. The performance will feature the musical performance of the Orchestra of Emmanuel Music, conducted by Jane Glover. The performances, taking place January 29–31, 2010, will also feature piano soloists Russell Sherman and Minsoo Sohn.

Mark Morris, having previously studied ballet, flamenco and Balkan folk dance, formed the Mark Morris Dance Group in 1980. Since its inception, the group has toured extensively, canvassing the United States and Europe, creating a West Coast home at Cal Performances in Berkeley, CA and a Midwest home at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, IL. The Mark Morris Dance Company’s main home is Brooklyn, NY where it hones it pioneering dance techniques and continues its commitment to live music. Mozart Dances illuminates Mozart’s Piano Concerto, No. 11; Sonata in D Major for 2 Pianos; and Piano Concerto, No. 27.

Mozart Dances premiered to sold out audiences in August, 2006 at the Mostly Mozart Festival with pianists Emanuel Ax and Yoko Nozaki, along with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra under the baton of Louis Langrée. The Mark Morris Group brings the performance to Boston under the Celebrity Series of Boston banner, marking a return to the Series since its debut engagement in 1999.

The performances will take place at The Boston Opera House, 539 Washington Street, January 29 through 31. They are on Friday, January 29 at 7:30pm; Saturday, January 30 at 8pm; and Sunday, January 31 at 3pm. To purchase tickets, please visit www.celebrityseries.org.
