In many ways man’s search for meaning in the world boils down to one simple question: “Who am I” Now, the Museum of Science offers a temporary exhibit (February 7–May 2 2010), Identity: An Exhibition of You, which explores this very question.

The exhibit, making its stop in Boston after spending time touring the rest of the country, is a hands-on, multi-faceted look at what makes up personal identity. Developed and produced by the Franklin Institute, Identity: An Exhibition of You explores identity through the lenses of personality, sociology, psychology and physiology, allowing museum goers to discover more about themselves on many levels. Taking a personal approach to the science behind identity, Identity: An Exhibition of You uses a human element in the method of scientific study—art, music and stories highlight the individuality of humanity.

What truly makes the exhibition interesting is its focus on both the physical and emotional. First, Identity explores the extent to which genes we are passed on affect our individual physicality. Physicality affects psychology too, as the exhibit shows how chemical compounds in the brain produce differing psychological results.

The exhibit can be found in Stearns Hall at the Museum of Science in Science Park Boston, MA. For more information, the public can call 617-723-2500, 617-589-0417 (TTY) or visit the Museum’s web site at www.mos.org.
