Michael Palin is thirty years old and Monty Python is enjoying the success of their films Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian. Yet all is not well in the Python camp. It becomes apparent that each member is starting to go their own way.

Halfway to Hollywood (Thomas Dunne Books) follows Palin’s journey to forge his own Hollywood carer and find him involved in both writing and appearing in films. He co-writes and appears in Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, co-produces and appears in The Missinary opposite Maggie Smith, and stars in A Fish Called Wanda.

Palin shares stories about his dealings with Hollywood executives, casting sessions, lavish parties, photo shoots and publicity junkets. And, interwoven throughout the entries are anecdotes about his home and family life.

Yet through all of this the diaries end with his final preparations for the documentary that was to change his life – Around the World in 80 Days…a fitting send off.
