The story of Frankenstein has been adapted for the stage and screen so many times, it’s amazing that so many people still refer to the monster as Frankenstein. Frankenstein is the doctor, people! His creation should be Frankenstein’s Monster! Or Fred, to his friends.

But at least one company’s got it right: the Rabbit Hole Ensemble, now celebrating their fifth year, has taken a different approach to Mary Shelley’s classic; instead of focusing on the monster, why not have an entire play about Frankenstein? Hence, The Tragic Story of Doctor Frankenstein, running from October 28-November 13 at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange.

Tragic Story, directed by Edward Elefterion and written by Stanton Wood, uses “masks, puppets, Kabuki and the narrative techniques of story-theatre” to tell its tale, and stars Arthur Aulisi, Emily Hartford, Elise Knight, Jocelyn O’Neil, Lauren Cook and Nikki Dillon.
