Tonight is the beginning of the long-awaited White Light Festival (you may have noticed the ads—hopefully), and what better way to start than with a free show (meaning, get there early!). At 8:30 p.m., composer and performer Meredith Monk will, well, perform, along with her Vocal Ensemble, including Katie Geissinger, Bohdan Hilash and Allison Sniffin.

Monk is one of those people who are good at everything they do. She can compose, sing, dance, direct and choreograph. In tonight’s concert, at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium, she’ll draw “on her 40 years of exploring the original human instrument, casting the voice as an eloquent language in and of itself, one capable of expanding the boundaries of composition and creating timeless landscapes of sound and emotion that lie beyond words.”

We’re not exactly sure what that means—but we do know it’ll be amazing.
