Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore”

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“‘Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door.
Only this, and nothing more.”

So begins Edgar Allen Poe’s most famous poem, “The Raven.” But for New Victory Theater’s new play, Nevermore, the story begins with, “All that we see is but a dream within a dream.” Both are creepy in a way that only Poe could pull off, which is what we should expect from tonight’s performance of Nevermore.

According to New Victory, Nevermore “uses haunting song, poetic storytelling and surreal imagery to explore the events that shaped Poe’s career and ignited his lifelong battle with ‘visions dark and sinister.’ For those who fancy ‘the ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore,’ don’t miss the spooky, stylish spectacle that is NEVERMORE! Muahahahaha!”
