Seven Days, Seven Shows

Bob Mould

Monday, November 1
Jonathan Richman
Bowery Ballroom, 8 p.m.

If Richman had only made one album—specifically, 1976′s The Modern Lovers—he’d still be someone worth seeing live. But he’s been making quality music ever since, including 2008′s Because Her Beauty is Raw and Wild. He also has the best named tribute album dedicated to him: If I Were a Richman: a Tribute to the Music of Jonathan Richman. $15

Tuesday, November 2
Florence and the Machines, the Smith Westerns
Terminal 5, 6:30 p.m.

Wasn’t it weird seeing Florence and the Machines at the 2010 Video Music Awards? On a show full of performances by Lady Gaga, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Kanye West, it was odd to see a band better known for their soul than their costume changes. Plus, they’re touring with the Smith Westerns, one of our favorite up and coming bands. $34.45

Wednesday, November 3
Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers
Pianos, 7:30 p.m.

We’re disappointed we missed Shilpa Ray during CMJ, as we’re big fans of their fascinating mix of blues, soul, rock and burlesque. We won’t make the same mistake twice. $8

Thursday, November 4
Bob Mould, Lenny Kaye
City Winery, 9 p.m.

Do we really have to explain why you need to see Bob Mould? The former lead singer of Husker Du and Sugar is still playing as loud as ever, giving us all hope that he’ll reunite with his former-band mates at some point. Copper Blue or Zen Arcade for next year’s ATP, perhaps? Lenny Kaye of the Patti Smith Band also plays. $30-$40

Friday, November 5
Interpol
United Palace Theatre, 8 p.m.

We’re still trying to figure out their self-titled album from earlier this year. It’s an Interpol album without hooks, so it’s no Interpol album at all. And yet, it has their name on it and they’re touring for it. So…? When do the Strokes play in New York? (And yes, we realize this is a column about shows you NEED to see this week, but who knows, maybe they’ll remember they’re the same band who once recorded “NYC”). $50.45

Saturday, November 6
Roger Waters
Madison Square Garden, 8 p.m.

Like this show needs any help selling tickets…$70.45-$277.40

Sunday, November 7
Guided by Voices
Terminal 5, 7 p.m.

We’ll have plenty about this show coming up later in the week, so stay tuned (or however the expressions translates to the Internet). $35
