What’s the highest amount money you’ve ever spent on a single food item? I’m not talking about spending $100 on dinner, drinks and desert, but the amount of hard earned dough you forked over for one thing. For me, it was the $26 Black Label Burger from Minetta Tavern, which tasted like BUTTER. I ate the thing in about five minutes and had to spend what basically amounts to the price of five regular cheeseburger at other restaurants to buy it, but I could taste the thing for days. Totally worth it.
Well, here’s something that has even a $26 burger beat—by $19, actually. Yesterday, Serious Eats New York spoke to chef Josh Capon about his $45 White Truffle Burger, available only at Burger and Barrel in SoHo. According to Capon, the restaurant sells “about 10 to 15″ of the burgers per day, which is necessary for business when the truffles cost “$1,900 to $2,200″ per pound.
Would you spend the price of four movie tickets (or eight matinee movie tickets!) for a single burger?
