Encore HQ couldn’t be happier about this holiday present. A very unique indie singer with an incredible soulful voice, Martin Sexton appears at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall this week singing his Solo Holiday Show. Its a part of the WFUV Live at the Zankel series.

Martin’s songs are intricate and spirited covering the American musical landscape by distilling soul, gospel, R&B, country and blues.

A Martin Sexton show is truly unlike any other concert experience. His performances are dynamic and bursting with depth and leaves everyone feeling a little better about themselves and the world around us.

Encore had a chance to ask him about his concert and few other holiday items.

1. Encore: Could you describe this holiday concert? What will the audience look forward to?

MS: I’ll be playing a few holiday chestnuts along with songs off my new record Sugarcoating as well as whatever else makes it onto my set list.

2. E: What is your favorite holiday song? Will you be playing it at the concert?

MS: Blue Christmas. Probably my favorite holiday song sung by Elvis, of course, and yes I will be singing it at Carnegie Hall.

3. E: With holidays around the corner, what present(s) are you wanting this year?

MS: What I want this year is for people who have never seen eye-to-eye in the past, to now find the likeness in one another and recognize our true opponent.

4. E: What present(s) are you wanting to give?

MS: Presents made in America by independent companies where workers have a fair wage.

5. E: There’s not a better place in the world to spend the holidays than NYC, do you have a favorite place you like to go?

MS: Katz’s Delicatessen – best rueben this side of Canter’s in LA.

6. E: What musician(s) are you listening to now?

MS: I’ve been listening to my 2-yr old son bang on his drums mostly.
