Somewhere in the middle of the boutiques, coffee shops and one-of-a-kind bookstores in Park Slope is Bonnie’s Grill – a wonderful place to get burgers. Who am I kidding? This place is straight up kick-ass.

This is where one can sit down alone or even with friends and be comfortable enjoying soul-mending food without the flashy lights or trendy décor (that’s a good thing). Bonnie’s Grill in a way, is a time machine; this is what Johnny Rockets wishes it was – a place where people in the neighborhood can go to on a lovely day and enjoy a bottle of cold beer or soda pop. Expect to find excellent food but not a sight of Bonnie; she’s a fictional character that exists only on their website and menu cover. The establishment’s name was inspired by the owner’s surname, thus we have, Bonnie.

Appetizers

Buffalo Chicken Wings with celery, carrots, and blue cheese (mild, medium, hot or hotter) – I was thrilled to learn that Bonnie’s serves wings because the place where I regularly get wings closed some time last year. Fortunately, their wings didn’t disappoint, it has just the right amount of everything.

Sandwiches

BBQ Pulled Pork on a corn-dusted roll (choice of side: fries, salad, cup of soup, cup of chili or spicy cole slaw) – When the words ‘bbq’ and ‘pulled pork’ are included in the same sentence, it should be an indication that something magical will happen. That is exactly what this particular item is- the meat is tender, juicy and creamy and the dish has layers of flavors. It’s like love at first sight… fireworks and all.

Specials

Grilled Berkshire Pork Loin in a Chili Sauce Marinade topped with Spicy Corn Relish & Swiss Cheese - Once again, Bonnie’s doesn’t fail to deliver. The ingredients work so well together and have great textures, colors and aromas.
