Since the inception of the Performing Arts Program in 1953, Japan Society has introduced more than 600 of Japan’s finest performing arts to an extensive American audience. This high energy event continues the tradition.

The timeless and ever-popular Hikashu, legendary J-techno pop band, takes the stage in New York for the very first time in an energetic performance alongside vibrant performer, icon and fashion front-runner Tomoe Shinohara and Steve Eto (percussion). This captivating and colorful line-up delivers a high-impact show spanning rock, pop, techno sounds and powerhouse vocals.

Champions of J-techno pop, the enduring band Hikashu takes listeners on unparalleled musical journeys through its inimitable sound. Led by its founder, electrifying vocalist Makigami Koichi (vocal, theremin, cornet), the group’s members include Mita Freeman (guitar, sampler), Sakaide Masami (bass, electronics), Shimizu Kazuto (piano, synthesizer, bass-clarinet) and Sato Masaharu (drums, voice).

Hikashu is joined by special guests–the beyond kawaii, fashionably flamboyant Japanese singer actress, TV personality and Japanese pop-icon Tomoe Shinohara (a.k.a. Shinorer) and Steve Eto (percussion). Popular in the West as a singer for the anime series Kodomo no Omocha aka Kodocha, Shinorer’s distinguished voice will contend with Makigami’s “super vocals.”

Japan Society will give half of all ticket and admission sales made March 14-June 30, 2011 to Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.
