Man On Wire’s Philippe Petit Presents Wireless
| | More
Philippe Petit, whose best known for his death-defying high wire walk between the Twin Towers in 1974, is back in the spotlight for three special nights to provide fans with a rare opportunity to heed the distinctive artist’s life stories and backstage secrets.
Petit’s performance, hosted by the Abrons Art Center, will reveal the experiences that detail his life as a jack-of-all-trades. From how he learned at an early age to perform magic tricks and walk high wire, to stories of bull riding and pick pocketing, WIRELESS! will provide laughter and intrigue while guiding its audience through Petit’s journey through life. As the subject of the Academy Award-winning documentary Man On Wire, Petit is known worldwide for the amazing high wire stunt he accomplished above the city of New York, but that only scratches the surface of one of the most astounding and brilliant artists to ever grace this earth.
Street-juggler, motivational speaker, poet, and stuntman are just a few titles that Philippe Petit can be classified under, but none truly encompass what Petit have been able to conquer in his lifetime. Expelled from five different schools as a kid, Petit has taught himself everything he knows, which makes his story somewhat unfathomable.
Performing on high wire in cities from Jerusalem to Tokyo, the French-native has demonstrated his high wire expertise over a 100 times since his illegal stunt between the Twin Towers. WIRELESS! will not only recount that adventure, which is still known as the most unbelievable “artistic crime” of all time, but will also include tales of bullfighting in Peru, his interest in lock-picking, and being arrested over 500 times for street-juggling.
Bolstering tales that the most creative mind wouldn’t be able to fabricate and featuring music from award winning composer, singer, songwriter, and producer J. Ralph, WIRELESS! will undoubtedly capture the imagination and heart of its audience. While extending the boundaries of theater itself, Petit’s performance shall leave even the most timely theater goers in complete awe.
