To get a little, you have to give a little. But for this show, the audience doesn’t have to give up a thing to enjoy an exciting evening blend of dance, theatre and comedy. However, this old adage holds true to the latest event.
Gross and company, based in New York, presents Dancescapes, this one known as Looking Forward, which is a trio of performances as intimate as a family gathering. Literally a threefold…THREE represents interlocking recurrent events and emotions as well as transformations. ONE is Gross’s solo that demonstrates a give and take scenario; TWO is a mystery, and we’re keeping our lips sealed. You’ll just have to attend the show to see what part TWO is all about.
Many of you may have heard of Sally Gross; she is most known for her hour-long documentary, The Pleasure of Stillness. Gross is a modern dancer and choreographer who is very popular in the New York area and often referred to as “the most poetic of minimalist modern-dance choreographers.” Yes, she’s poetic and modern while combining the two most fun things to let loose: dancing and laughing. This show is sure to make your jaw drop in awe at the spectacular choreography while simultaneously doubling over in laughter. According to Gross, “All of my dance is autobiographical, I don’t think I’ve left any of my history out.” Since nothing is left out, be sure not to miss Gross’s most recent masterpiece, or you’ll regret it, trust me.
Gross’s latest magic is full of all new work. Gross and company will be performing in her native city, the Big Apple. The event runs starting this Thursday, June 16th through the 19th starting at 8 p.m. at Joyce SoHo located at 155 Mercer Street. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 212-431-9233; the tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students and senior citizens.
