As your eyes glance over the title “Streep Tease”, you stop and do a double take.  No ladies and gentlemen, it’s not that kind of show.   Before your imagination runs wild, let me clarify.  This new to New York dramedy featured at Joe’s Pub is slightly more demure.  It is Streep Tease: An Evening Of Meryl Streep Monologues. For just $25, you and your friends will experience a night filled with a revamping of the most memorable cinematic moments featuring the iconic Meryl Streep.

Comedy lovers, movie buffs, and Meryl fans alike will thoroughly enjoy this show created by Roy Cruz.  It features a group of eight male actors recreating scenes from the wide variety of classic Meryl Streep films. Let it be noted that if you are looking for purely dramatic readings, you best look elsewhere.  Cruz designed the show so that the dramatics were left to the one and only Meryl Streep.  These actors will leave you in hysterics as they use a unique mix of satire and drama to deliver the monologues in a redefined and re-imagined way. Their devotion to Streep shines as they perform scenes from various films such as Kramer vs. Kramer, Out Of Africa, and The Devil Wears Prada.

So just what exactly is with this all male cast’s devotion to Meryl Streep?  Well, for starters she’s a cinematic legend, one of America’s original sweethearts, not to mention a phenomenal actress.  She has been nominated for the Academy Award sixteen times over the past twenty-one years, gaining two outstanding wins for Kramer vs. Kramer and Sophie’s Choice.  As Cameron from ABC’s hit series Modern Family once stated, “Meryl Streep could play Batman and be the right choice.  She is perfection”.  Need I list more reasons?

Her credentials certainly speak for themselves, justifying the attention paid to her from this cast of fellow performers.   As Cruz further explains, “We all have a role that we relate to or are fascinated with.”  For this group of actors, impersonation is the best form of flattery, as well as a fantastic way to draw an audience.  Inspired by a woman with such a rich and versatile career, the possibilities for this cast are endless.
