There’s only one thing the band Greenwood knows how to do: play rock ‘n’ roll songs. And damn, do they do it well. No special effects, no Autotune, no costume changes. Just good ol’ fashioned rock.
Greenwood—composed of lead singer/guitarist Joé Boisvert, guitarist Kim Boisvert, drummer Luc Jr Bélisle and bassist Sébastien H.B—hail from Quebec and were influenced at a young age by such greats as Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
These influences really show when listening to Greenwood’s debut album, Green Money, which hit stories last month. But unlike many modern blues band, who simply cover Waters’s “I’m a King Bee” and call it a day, Greenwood write their own material and, depending on the song, you might hear something psychedelic and sexy, like the self-titled track, or more of a country rock vibe, such as on the debut single, “Right Place, Right Time.”
If you like what you hear (and how couldn’t you?), you should know that Greenwood (whose website can be found here) is playing a concert tonight, June 21, at the National Underground (159 E. Houston St.). The show begins at 8 p.m, and, in the words of Greenwood, be sure to get there at the “right place, right time.”
