Monday, June 28
Dinosaur Bones
Pianos (158 Ludlow St.), 8 p.m.
Yes, most of the members have beards—have I lost you yet? Hope not, because Dinosaur Bones are actually quite good. The songs of the Toronto-based quintet have pop music-worthy hooks, but everything has a “dirty” sound to it, like a louder and grittier Spoon/National hybrid. $6

Tuesday, June 29
Jay Electronica
Highline Ballroom (431 W. 16th St.), 8 p.m.
The former-Je’Ri Allah hasn’t actually released a full-length album yet, but his “Exhibit A” and “Exhibit C” (there’s no “B”) are reason enough to check out his soulful hip-hop tonight. Almost performing is Joell Ortiz, Cyhi Da Prynce , DJ Greg Street, and STS. $20

Wednesday, June 30
Passion Pit with Tokyo Police Club
Governors Island, 5 p.m.
Last week, we wrote about why you should see this show. Another reason: Passion Pit’s song “Moth’s Wings” has been featured on both Gossip Girl and Big Love, meaning they’re the perfect band for both New York socialites and Mormons. $32.50

Thursday, July 1
The Oblivians
Knitting Factory (361 Metropolitan Ave.), 10 p.m.
Most reunion shows cost a lot more than they’re worth (I’m looking at you, the Police), so to find a recently reunited band that’s good and to find it for free (!), well, just be happy you live in the culture capital of the U.S. The Oblivians played their unique band of garage punk from 1993-1998 and this is their first NYC show in 13 years. Free

Friday, July 2
Faith No More
Williamsburg Waterfront (L train), 6:45 p.m.
The Waterfront has become one of the most impressive venues in New York. This summer, they managed to snag Weezer, Modest Mouse, Primus, Nas & Damien Marley, Pavement (I’ll be there!), Belle & Sebastian (ditto!), and tonight’s performance by the recently reunited Faith No More. $44

Saturday, July 3
Limp Bizkit
PNC Bank Arts Center (Holmdel, NJ), 7 p.m.
When I was an intern for Nerve.com, I wrote an article called “Everything I Learned about Love, I Learned from Limp Bizkit.” That’s probably why I remained an intern…Anyway, most of the Bizkit’s first tour in years has been canceled (no comment), so start rollin’ out to Jersey to hear “Break Stuff,” “Nookie” and other nu-metal, um, classics before the band breaks up again. $26.25-$55.75

Sunday, July 4
She & Him
Governors Island, 4 p.m.
Some might think Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward’s band too cute, but I think they’re just the right amount of adorable. Zooey is perfectly twee and Ward is an underrated guitarist (plus, they deserve props for covering Richard Thompson, the Beatles, NRBQ and the Miracles). Together, they make easy, breezy pop music that’s perfect to celebrate our country’s independence with. Free
