Every third Saturday of the month, El Museo del Barrio open their doors to learn about Latino culture—for free! And guess what? Tomorrow, the 17th, is a third Saturday. The event is sponsored by Target and from 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m., the museum will have concerts, exhibitions, gallery tours, art making workshops, walking tours, film screenings and spoken word recitals, all part of Super Sabado!
There will also be a block party, with a central theme of Health and Fitness. Meaning, bring your Rollerblades, bikes and scooters around 104th Street and 5th Avenue, where the museum’s located. There will also be dance contests, photos booths, a book reading by the Food Network’s Daisy Martinez and free gifts for the entire family.
The weather for Saturday is supposed to be 92 and sunny, so you have no valid excuse to stay indoors. Instead, head out to the El Museo del Barrio (1230 5th Ave.) and have some fun. More information can be found here and below is a schedule of events:
Arts & Wonder Photo Station

Messenger Bags & Sticker Fun

Add some flair to your bicycle, helmet, or skates at our sticker station, and ride away in style with your very own messenger bag (provided by Target) that you get to decorate.
DJ Turn & Spin
11 a.m.-5 p.m., La Calle
Muévete to the rhythm of our DJ’s groove, as he spins irresistible funky beats.
Hula Hoops & Jump Ropes
12 p.m.-4 p.m., La Calle
Twist, jump, and spin your way to fitness as you join the party at this station.
Race Course
12 p.m.-4 p.m., La Calle
Bikes, skates and scooters are welcome on this mini bicycle course for children led by our wonderful partners, NY Bike Jumble.
Colorin’ Colorado…with Daisy Martinez
1 p.m. & 3 p.m., El Café
Join Food Network star Daisy Martinez as she leads children through a world of wonder with her engaging readings of Super Cilantro Girl and Grandma and Me, At the Flea.
Abakua Dance Company
12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m., La Calle
This introductory workshop is designed to get people moving and give everyone a chance to experience the fun and excitement of Abakua Dance Company.
Breakdancing Demo & Competition
3 p.m.-5 p.m., La Calle
Bring your battle skills to El Museo’s b-boy/b-girl one-on-one competition for a $250 cash prize and the title of El Barrio’s Freshest.
