Dean & Britta Take Manhattan

Dean & Britta

Luna, formed by Dean Wareham in 1992, recorded an impressive seven studio albums and one live album before calling it quits in 2005. But from that band’s ending came the beginning of Dean & Britta (composed of former bandmates Wareham and Britta Phillips). Since then, Dean & Britta have released whimsical albums like their recent full-length Back Numbers, and now they’re taking on an intimate, monthly live show at the Zipper Factory. The duo, known for their whispery, French pop-esque sound, seems the perfect fit for the cozy factory turned vintage show space. Over the past few years, the pair has branched out into the world of cinema—they scored Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale; political activism—Phillips volunteers for Obama’s campaign; and publishing—last winter Wareham came out with the lauded memoir Black Postcards: A Rock and Roll Romance. But the Zipper Factory performance is a chance to catch them doing what they’re best at—making memorable music.
