Movie Nights on the Elevated Acre, part of the River to River Festival

With a tagline like “Her soft mouth was the road to sin-smeared violence,” Killer’s Kiss, one of Stanley Kubrick’s earliest full-length films, seems the perfect flick for a sultry August evening. Movie Nights on the Elevated Acre, part of the River to River Festival, presents the 1955 film noir classic, giving a glimpse of Kubrick almost 20 years before his days of space travel and ultra violence. Starring Jamie Smith, Irene Kane and Frank Silvera, the story dives quickly into a vicious love triangle. Boxer Davy Gordon, played by Smith, has his sights set on private dancer Gloria Price (Kane). Unfortunately, Price is being coveted by ne’er-do-well boss Vincent Rapallo (Silvera). The pulse-quickening story is told through flashbacks as Davy sits on the platform at Grand Central Station waiting to board a train to Seattle. Aficionados like to note camera angels and lighting techniques that were well ahead of their time, but all film fans will be thrilled by the melodramatic plotline.
