Germany’s Notwist are back on the road with a new album
The Notwist

The Notwist, a German electro-pop band formed in 1989, are a difficult act to describe: Their sound fluidly moves from ambient to straight-up indie rock—with the odd electronic click or pop thrown in just in case you thought you had them figured out. To hear their new release The Devil, You + Me, one would never guess that they began as a grunge band.
Their music has evolved into something sweet, but not sickeningly so. It is able to hold the attention of both moody twenty-somethings and hip forty-somethings. Markus Acher, on lead vocals, adds a delicateness with his soft but sorrowful voice that translates beautifully on tracks like “Your Alphabet” and “Good Lies.”
Though Notwist’s popularity is on the rise, their touring frequency isn’t. With their first album in seven years and a tour to accompany, this is practically the musical equivalent of the coming of the locusts.
