The Only Name in Hollywood That Would Get Booed During a Trailer

I finally got around to seeing Scott Pilgrim vs. the World last night. Really enjoyable and funny film, although I can see how someone over a certain age (let’s go with 35) might not enjoy it. And even though most people are over Michael Cera, I still enjoy his awkward ways.

Before the film, though, the trailer for Devil was shown. The movie, set for an September 17 opening, is about five strangers stuck in an elevator—and I must admit, it looks pretty scary. I’m a sucker for claustrophobic films (can’t wait for Buried!), and the crowd was into it too. After all, how often do you see a film with an original script and no big-name stars attached?

Except there was.

This flashed on the screen:

“Boooooo!”

In just eight years (everything post-Signs, which is a pretty solid movie, minus the last 20 minutes), M. Night Shyamalan has gone from one of Hollywood’s most promising figures to someone who gets booed by an audience when his name shows up during a trailer for a Wednesday early-evening screening.

And can I just say again how awful The Last Airbender was? Thank you. It was awful.

That is all.
