Recently inducted into the Georgia Hall of Fame and bred of Julliard pedigree, it’s easy to see that Freddy Cole is a gifted musician. And it comes as no surprise as Cole is one in a line of talented musicians in his family, including older brother Nat “King” Cole and niece Natalie Cole. Frequent visitors to his childhood home included Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton and Count Basie and it seems that their flair for jazz interpretations of classic standards rubbed off on Cole, now a seasoned performer.

Cole, whose vocal stylings of The Great American Songbook and virtuoso piano playing have garnered critical praise, will be playing at Jazz Standard for two nights (August 31 and September 1) with his quartet and special guest tenor saxophonist Harry Allen. Cole has called New York home for more than forty years after leaving Chicago to study music but constant touring keeps the fan favorite away. This homecoming of sorts is sure to keep audiences just as enthralled as they were nearly fifty years ago when Cole’s first single was released, as he has received rave reviews for his live shows with the quartet.

The Freddy Cole Quartet plays the Jazz Standard for only two nights, July 31 and August 1. Tickets and more information are available at jazzstandard.com.
