All summer long the Wall Street Journal’s series of talks examining different cross-sections of art and entertainment, Summer Scoops: Live with the Wall Street Journal, has provided perspective and introspection on a variety of artists and their art. The series comes to a close August 18th with a talk featuring the creators of the Broadway smash hit Passing Strange and their collaborators at the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zanes Dance Company.

This culminating talk will feature a discussion topic closely related to the series itself: collaboration. The series, in many ways about the collaborative efforts of writers and artists to bring new material and its processes to light, discusses the collaborative process in depth. Joining Wall Street Journal editor Wendy Bounds at the talk are Stew and Heidi Rodewald, creators of the rock musical Passing Strange. The two had worked on and played music together for years before embarking on the journey to create a transformative piece of original theater content. Also on hand are choreographer Bill T. Jones and his closest collaborators in the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zanes Dance Company. The panel will discuss the good and bad in collaboration, examining the creative collaborative process while offering insight into what drawbacks and benefits come from artistic partnerships.

Stew and Rodewald will also be presenting The Broadway Problem at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, August 19 as a tandem performance piece. The concert, featuring Broadway hits arranged in new and exciting ways by the pair, will be performed by Inuit singer Tanya Tagaq.
