Read Comics in Public Day

As far as fringe holidays go, Read Comics in Public Day is pretty awesome. And it’s this Saturday, August 28! Whitney Matheson over at Pop Candy first alerted me to the public celebration of all things nerdy and graphic (novels, that is). Brian Heater, the founder of the holiday, described its origin on his website:

Comics are now widely accepted as a legitimate and vibrant art form—so why do I still feel a bit embarrassed to let strangers know about my not-so-secret passion?…My fellow Daily Cross Hatch editor Sarah Morean suggested that we turn the joke into something a bit nobler—and perhaps more permanent. And thus, the first annual Read Comics in Public Day was born.

To celebrate, all you have to do is to go a public spot, like a park or restaurant, and start reading a comic. Maybe I suggest Dark Horses’ Buffy the Vampire Slayer series or anything Batman-related? Especially if you haven’t read The Killing Joke.
