How does a generation inundated with fear cope with the ins and outs of everyday life? This is the question Alexander Dinelaris attempts to answer in MCC Theater’s Still Life. The new play, directed by Will Frears, examines the paralyzing fear of photographer Carrie Ann, whose career comes to a grinding halt when she finds herself unable to so much as pick up her camera. Her tumble into darkness is interrupted and complicated by a whirlwind romance with trend analyst Jeff, a man with an uncertain future of his own who is determined to help Carrie Ann through her fear.
Dinelaris is a Drama Desk nominated playwright whose works have been lauded as representative of a new voice in American theater. Frears, whose career in film and stage direction has been successful and varied, brings his own personal sense of timing and tone to this introspective and often funny new play.
The diverse cast includes Dominic Chianese, Halley Feiffer, Ian Kahn, Adriane Lenox, Kelly McAndrew, Sarah Paulson, Matthew Rauch and Frederick Weller. Performances of Still Life will begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) on September 16 and continue through November 1, 2009. Opening night is set for Monday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. Performances are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m., Thursdays – Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are priced at $59 and are available by visiting ticketcentral.com or by calling 212-279-4200.
