The Flamenco Side of Kind of Blue
Chano Dominguez concert at Jazz Standard
| | More
In the world of jazz, imitation really is the best form of flattery. Artists are constantly looking for ways to reinvent previously composed works. The Chano Dominguez Flamenco Quintet, performing December 3–6 at Jazz Standard may have found a way to reinvent the wheel.
Presenting The Flamenco Side of Kind of Blue, The Chano Dominguez Flamenco Quintet puts their own spin on the 1959 Miles Davis milestone. The staging will be performed by a unique flamenco/jazz combo under the direction of the brilliant pianist Sebastian Domínguez Lozano, better known as Chano Domínguez. With Mario Rossy on bass, Blas Córdoba on cantaor, Israel “Piraña” Suárez on cajón, and Tomasito performing dance and the palmas, the weekend gig will prove to be one of the most unique experiences at the Jazz Standard this year.
This is the final concert series of the Voll–Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival, proudly co–presented with Jazz Standard. The festival seeks to promote both jazz and Barcelona, as well as their relationship and its byproduct. A Flamenco Side of Kind of Blue was specially commissioned for the Festival by the Quintet and serves as the cornerstone for the eclectic festival.
Tickets to Chano Domínguez Flamenco Quintet: The Flamenco Side of Kind of Blue are available for $30 and may be purchased at www.jazzstandard.com where you can find more information on this and many more Jazz Standard concerts.
