Julianne Moore is generally regarded as one of the finest actresses out there today, thanks to stunning roles in Boogie Nights, A Single Man and 30 Rock. But she’s also a rather talented author, having created Freckleface Strawberry, a New York Times bestselling children’s book about the titular girl who learns to love her freckles.

And the book has now been turned into a musical, which opens today, September 9, at Off-Broadway’s New World Stages (340 W. 50th St.). Hayley Podschun (Pal Joey, Hairspray) stars as Strawberry, with Jessica Bishop, Andrew Cristi, Linda Gabler, Kimiko Glenn, Joey Haro, Mykal Kilgore, Eric Nelsen and Morgan Smith playing her friends. All the children are played by adults.

The performance schedule for the Buddy Crutchfield-directed Freckleface is Wednesday, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Thursday-Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 12 and 3 p.m. Tickets for the musical can be purchased here.

Now that she’s hit the big time, Freckleface shouldn’t worry so much. Here are some of other favorite actresses who also have freckles:
