Seven Days, Seven Shows

Jay-Z and Eminem

| | More

Monday, September 13
Spoon
Music Hall of Williamsburg, 7 p.m.

This show is in honor of Music Hall’s three-year anniversary, leading tickets to be priced at the relatively amusing $33.33. Spoon is the perfect band to celebrate the venue’s anniversary too: they’ll never blow you away, but they’re incredibly consistent, making quality album after quality album. Same goes with Music Hall; it’s not the city’s greatest venue, but there’s nothing bad to say about it. $33.33

Tuesday, September 14
Jay-Z & Eminem
Yankee Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

If they’re not the two greatest living rappers, they’re certainly the two most popular. Eminem has rejuvenated his career with Recovery, after releasing two straight duds, Encore and Relapse, while Jay-Z is just as famous now as he’s even been, maybe even more, thanks to “Empire State of Mind.” Tonight, they’ll play at the home of the New York Yankees, presumably leading to many Detroit Tigers jokes thrown Eminem’s way. There’s also no way Alicia Keys doesn’t show up. $52.50-$298

Wednesday, September 15
Billy Idol
Hammerstein Ballroom, 6:30 p.m.

I’ll admit that I don’t know much about Idol’s solo career (besides “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell,” of course), but I am a big fan of Generation X, his punk band from 1978-1981. “Dancing with Myself” is a great, great song, and none other than Terry Chimes of the Clash joined the band when Generation X’s original drummer, Mark Laff, left to form Empire. I’d like to think Idol would perform “King Rocker” over, say, something from Cyberpunk. $45-$65

Thursday, September 16
Vampire Weekend, Beach House, Dum Dum Girls
Radio City Music Hall, 8 p.m.

Be sure to get to Radio City before Vampire’s set to see Beach House, who we can’t say enough good things about. $39.50

Friday, September 17
Of Montreal
Terminal 5, 7 p.m.

Earlier this year at the Highline Ballroom, Susan Sarandon joined Of Montreal on-stage and proceeded to spank a man dressed as a pig with a ruler. How can Of Montreal top that? Maybe they’ll get both Sarandon and her fellow motherlover, Patricia Clarkson? $27.50

Saturday, September 18
No Age
Music Hall of Williamsburg, 8 p.m.

Later in the month, New Yorkers will be hating on Los Angeles with Le Grand Fooding (of which we’ll have much more about soon), myself included. If you’re a proud resident of the Big Apple, it’s a must that you make fun of L.A. whenever you can. Well, tonight, I’m speechless because the West Coast-based No Age make some of the most fun punk music out there. $15

Sunday, September 19
Pavement
Williamsburg Waterfront, 5:30 p.m.

PAVEMENT! PAVEMENT! PAVEMENT! PAVEMENT! JENNY & JOHNNY! PAVEMENT! $38.50
