Many know Simon Cowell as the snarky, self-important British judge on American Idol, but his crowning achievement may just be the operatic super group he formed in 2003. After hearing a recording by Andrea Bocelli, Cowell used his new found appreciation of classical music to fuel a worldwide search for members of a super group. The hunt for the members of Il Divo (Italian for male diva) took two years and resulted in its current lineup: Spanish opera and Spanish baritone, Carlos Marín; two classically trained tenors, Swiss Urs Bühler and American David Miller; and a French pop singer, Sébastien Izambard.

The group has sold millions of records and toured around the world, accumulating hoards of fans. December 15–17, the group will play a series of shows at the Beacon Theatre for a musical holiday experience that shouldn’t be missed. Il Divo will perform favorites from The Christmas Collection, their immensely popular holiday release. After three successful albums, two sold-out world tours, and critical acclaim, Il Divo is back. This original and popular operatic quartet return with The Opera Orchestra of New York, bringing their holiday tour to New York before they play a December 18 show at Boston’s Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre. They will be joined by Emmy and Tony-winning soprano Kristin Chenoweth and international star violinist virtuoso Vanessa-Mae.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting the Beacon Theatre box office at http://www.beacontheatre.com/.
