Yesterday we picked the Talking Heads as one of the five bands we’d most like to see reunited. Well, we sort of have our wish. Tonight at the Tank Theater (354 W. 45th St.), Puppet Playlist will feature original works of puppetry inspired by David Bryne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison, a.k.a. the Talking Heads.
According to the Tank, Puppet Playlist “takes brilliant puppeteers and talented musicians and slams them together into an evening of live theater to stir the senses—based on a musical theme selected by the audience.” In previous weeks, they’ve performed songs by They Might Be Giants, Tom Waits and the Magnetic Fields.
Tonight’s Talking Heads puppet extravaganza will feature pieces by Wonderspark Puppets, Jodi Eichelberger and Cathy McCullough, Lake Simons, Jon Levin, Marina Tsaplina and Sarah Lafferty, with music performed by the Great Republic of Rough and Ready, Swamp Cat, Anna Leuchtenberger, Franz Nicolay and Tom Curtin.
Tickets, which can be purchased here, cost $7 advance/$8 door. Performances are tonight, Sept. 15, at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. And remember: “I was complaining, I was down in the dumps/I feel so strong now, ’cause you puppet me up!”
