Merkin Concert Hall’s “Broadway Close Up” series has taken audience behind the scenes of musicals both old and new for a decade now. And in celebration of their 10th year, which begins tonight, Sept. 20, they’ve got their best slate of events yet.

September 20, 8 p.m.
Songs by Composers & Lyricists You Probably Don’t Know but Should
Tony Award-winning composer Bill Finn (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) hosts a sampling of original work by some of the best new composers and lyricists out there today, including Stanley Bahorek, Wilson Bridges, Quentin Earl Darrington, Carmen Ruby Floyd, Sally Wilfert and Michael Winther.

October 4, 8 p.m.
Fire and Rain: The Songs of James Taylor
Broadway stars Heidi Blickenstaff, Michael Winther, Clarke Thorell and Benjamin Schrader will sing selections from James Taylor’s classic songbook, including such classics as “Sweet Baby James,” “Fire and Rain” and “How Sweet It Is.”

October 25, 8 p.m.
Off-Broadway Close Up
Big ol’ Broadway gives props to its younger sibling, Off-Broadway. Tom Jones, Josh Grisetti, Christina Bianco, Donna English, Susan Blackwell, Christine Pedi, Jason Robinson, Christopher Sieber and more will perform an overview of Off Broadway’s best musicals, including The Fantasticks, Dames at Sea, Godspell and Little Shop of Horrors.

November 15, 8 p.m.
All the Things You Are—Jerome Kern
Jerome Kern is one of theater and film’s greatest composers; without Kern, there’d be no “All the Things You Are” or “The Way You Look Tonight,” one of the world’s perfect songs. Tonight’s event pays tribute to the composer by focusing on some of Kern’s earlier songs with new arrangements by David Loud. Also performing: Rebecca Luker, Kate Baldwin, Matthew Scott and Graham Rowat.

December 6, 8 p.m.
Bound for Broadway: 10th Anniversary Celebration
As mentioned above, Broadway Up Close is now in its 10th season, and tonight highlights some of the great highlights that have been featured over the past decade, including Next to Normal and Avenue Q. Liz Callaway hosts, with performances by Bobby Lopez, Lisa Lambert, Greg Morrison, Tom Kitt, Brian Yorkey, Joanne Bogart and Eric Rockwell.

Individual tickets cost $40, or you can buy a three concert subscription for $100.
