Jeremy Pelt Quintet celebrates new album at Jazz Standard
| | More
Voted Rising Star on the Trumpet five years in a row by Downbeat Magazine, Jeremy Pelt is one of the most exciting and progressive trumpeters playing today. Since his arrival in New York City in 1998, Pelt has played with some of the best in the business and wowed countless audiences with his innovative sounds. Now Jeremy Pelt has assembled a quartet of his own and will play Jazz Standard January 28–31.
Pelt’s performance at Jazz Standard will celebrate his first release on the HighNote Label debut, Men on Honor. The album features the Jeremy Pelt Quintet, the same lineup that will grace the Jazz Standard stage. With Pelt at the Helm on trumpet, his back up will include JD Allen on tenor saxophone, Danny Grissett on piano, Dwayne Burno on bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums.
Classically trained in his youth, Pelt began studying jazz when he entered high school. He studied music at Berklee College of Music before moving the New York City where he quickly caught the attention of established musicians. Playing with the likes of Jimmy Heath, Ravi Coltrane, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Bobby “ Blue” Bland Duke Ellington Big Band, Cassandra Wilson, Gary Bartz, Harold Ousley, and many more, Pelt secured a consistent spot on playing in the Mingus Big Band. Since branching out as his own bandleader, he has impressed critics and audiences with what is considered to be one of the most original musical forces on the Jazz Scene today.
