Earlier this week, it was reported Harvey Fierstein is writing a libretto for the upcoming stage version of Newsies. There’s no word on when this sure-to-be-fantastic musical extravaganza is set to open—or even if it will—but considering how great Newsies is (well, most of it), here’s hoping it’s sometime soon.

Like I mentioned above, though, not all of the 1992 film is worth keeping. Below is what needs to go and what should be cut:

Keep

-“Carrying the Banner” as an opener

-Crutchy

-Christian Bale

-“Santa Fe”

-“King of New York”

-Bill Pullman (who else would cover Brooklyn to Trenton?)

-“Seize the Day”

Cut

-The depressing mother in “Carrying the Banner” (see above)

-Any scene involving Medda Larkson

-And don’t have anyone else sing “My Lovey Dovey Baby” and “High Times, Hard Times

-The revolving accents of Joseph Pulitzer

-Brooklyn as a terrifying place to go; make it Jersey.
