Seeing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Monster Island reminded me of the punk shows that I would occasionally go to in high school. Not in a talent way, of course, because YYYs are arguably the finest (and most important) band to come out of New York since 2000 (sorry, the Strokes); rather, the venue was tiny, lacked any sort of ventilation and its only decorations were either cardboard or shiny. There was even a VHS copy of Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls around.
But seeing one of your favorite bands with only 300 superfans (and Kyp Malone!) is an unbeatable experience, lack of even a single fan—the kind that cool you off—notwithstanding. As you’ll see below, the lighting was rather terrible, so excuse the not so amazing quality of the photos. Didn’t bring an SLR to see Love Buzz in 10th grade, why start now?
