It was as inevitable as the Republic destroying the second Death Star: the entire Star Wars six-pack will be converted to 3D, beginning in 2012 with The Phantom Menace. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Episode I, The Phantom Menace, would be first out of star-dock during early 2012. After that, each film would be released in order at the same time in consecutive years, depending on how well the first re-release does.”

At this point, I’m beyond being shocked when it comes to George Lucas squeezing more money out of the Star Wars franchise because, well, what does he care? His films are worth billions, but could be worth billions more (!) and everyone already hates him anyways…but, at the same time, they love him, too, because HE CREATED STAR WARS.

Like me. I want to hate George—well, I do hate him, but if he hadn’t re-released the original trilogy in theaters in 1997, I may have never become the huge Star Wars fan I am now (although I must admit I prefer Star Trek). The new CGI scenes were stupid (and fake looking), but I can still remember 10-year-old me staring at the screen, amazed by the Bottle on Hoth and thinking the good guys were going to be smashed by a garbage compactor.

Not to sound cheesy, but if a new generation can feel the same way I did, I’m all for it…okay, that was pretty cheesy, so here’s a video of Leia in her slave bikini.
