Many hungry citizens of New York City have been fed, donations have been made, walls are now plastered and the sick have been entertained. Z100 radio host Trey Morgan has finally completed his “30 Deeds, 30 Days” project. Encore caught up with the restless aspiring philanthropist to talk about his experience.
I have been following Trey Morgan’s project since day one, so I was very curious to know how it went for the top 40 radio personality. “It was exciting, exhilarating, exuberating… I can come up with more adjectives,” Morgan native tells me. Some may have thought of Morgan’s project as a publicity stunt to get more listeners, but I could hear genuine gratification in his voice when I spoke to him. “I learned a lot about the different organizations, like Autism Speaks,” he says. “I learned that 1 in 75 boys are diagnosed with autism. Wow! Who would’ve thought that? I learned a lot about these organizations and their causes, but I also learned a ton about myself. I was able to have the experience to see myself in a different light. I’ve never pushed myself in that kind of way, so I learned a lot about myself as a person and what things are really important to me.”
After a month of volunteering his time to a number of charities, Morgan admitted there were a couple of moments that changed the way he perceives certain things. “I’ve always loved animals,” Morgan says, “but now that I’ve seen first hand how some have been treated, how terrible some of these dog breeders are, I am more compassionate and have more love for dogs that I see on the street.” One particular good deed that affected him greatly was his time with Musicians on Call, an organization that allows hospital patients to be serenaded by live and recorded tunes of their favorites artists. Trey Morgan recalls the moment: “I was with a musician and he was singing his songs at a hospital to these kids. I was there playing percussion and singing along, interacting with the kids the best I could, and to see them light up at the simple sound of the harmonica, to see their eyes light up and to see their breathing get faster because they’re excited, to see that is amazing.”
The aspiring philanthropist has more ideas as to how he can give back, but he’s taking a break for now and going back to normal. To check out what Trey Morgan did during his “30 Deeds, 30 Days” challenge, please click here.
