How the new Gap logo is upsetting a lot of people
| | More
To get over 2,000 followers in two days, you either have to be really loved or truly hated. In the case of @GapLogo, it goes beyond hate: it’s a matter of incurring the wrath of graphic designers everywhere. A few days ago, Gap, makers of this cute ad and this annoying ad, unveiled a new logo:

The one on the left is the new one—and the far crappier one, too. Between the Helvetica and the small blue box, I’m not sure what Gap is trying to say. Lots of companies use Helvetica for their logo (Target, Evian, CVS), but rarely in plain ol’ black. Bolded black, too. Or, as Co.Design puts it, “Two things seem to especially tweak designer brains: the plain-jane use of typeface Helvetica (which even longtime stalwart American Apparel is ducking away from these days), and that odd little square, painted in an oh-so-yesterday gradient, like a sad out-of-season hat.”
And it’s pissing a lot of people off.
As for the Twitter account, well, it’s just funny, like “Thought we had questionable labor practices before? Now we’re going to exploit designers! Upton Sinclair would be proud.” But like every meme on the internet, it’ll only be funny for a day or two more, so check out the account now, before Old Navy decides to change its logo, too.
