Is Jackie Brown Tarantino’s Worst Film? Or His Best?

We know that Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Inglourious Basterds are modern cinematic masterpieces, and both Kill Bill films are flawed but great. But what about Jackie Brown? It’s the forgotten Quentin Tarantino film, similar to Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, made between A Clockwork Orange and The Shining. Opinions on Jackie Brown differ depending on whom you ask. To me, it’s probably his weakest effort, even with great performances from Pam Grier and Robert De Niro. But that’s like saying Loaded is the Velvet Underground’s “worst album; when everything you make is a classic, something inevitably has to be last.

Then again, maybe Jackie Brown just needs to be seen again—and coincidentally, it’s playing at the Film Forum today at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. For more information, please click here.
