Pitchfork’s #Offline Festival
Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Brooklyn Bowl, 1:30 p.m.

I still don’t quite understand the point of Pitchfork having a mini-festival at the same time as CMJ, especially when they CMJ showcases. But I do know that I like a lot of the bands playing at the Bowl this weekend, including Marnie Stern, Cloud Nothings, Titus Andronicus and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Plus, for only $10, you get about 10 bands. A dollar per band? No wonder the music industry is in such good shape.
Thrill the World 2010
Saturday, October 23
Times Square/Coney Island, 7 a.m./7 p.m.

Can you believe the King of Pop passed away nearly 16 months ago? Weird. His legacy still lives on, though, and on Saturday, Thrill the World NYC is hoping you’ll join them for the fourth annual worldwide simultaneous dance of “Thriller.” At 7 a.m., there will be a flashmob in Times Square; at 7 p.m., Coney Island. If you haven’t seen 13 Going on 30 and don’t know the dance, click here. Remember: no mere mortal can resist the evil of the thriller.
Halloween Dog Parade
Saturday, October 23
Tompkins Square Park, 12-3 p.m.

Exactly what it sounds like: adorable!
The Muppet Vault: Monsters!
Sunday, October 24
Knitting Factory, 2 p.m.

The awesome folks behind Tough Pigs will be showing “spooky, scary and hair-raising videos starring some of your favorite Muppet monsters.” Does that include Uncle Deadly? I hope so. Totally underrated Muppet. There will also be drink specials, trivia and prizes, all for only $5. That’s less than the cost of the original Kermit, made from a coat that Jim Henson’s mother threw away and two ping-pong balls.
Murray Hill’s Annual Miss Lez Pageant
Sunday, October 24
Knitting Factory, 8 p.m.

From Muppets to lesbians, the Knitting Factory has it all (can I write promo for them?). In this “beauty pageant for queer womyn,” six contestants will compete against one another in the following categories: Platform, Swimsuit, Evening Gown, Interview and Talent, with the winner receiving a very special gift from Babeland. Celebrity guests include the Village Voice’s Michael Musto and Sarah Greenwood, front woman of GSX.
