Shakespeare On the Go
The Public Theater’s new way of showcasing the Bard’s work

Get ready for Shakespeare: On the Go. Earlier today, the Public Theater announced an expansion of its Shakespeare initiative to include a new platform for the production of the Bard’s work, called The Mobile Unit. Its mission is to “bring the highest caliber professional productions of Shakespeare, free of charge, to audiences with little or no access to major New York City arts institutions,” according to the Public Theater.
The first performance will be Measure for Measure, about a Duke who goes undercover to investigate the behavior of a deputy and other townspeople, and it will tour “correctional facilities, homeless shelters, facilities for battered and abused women, drug rehab facilities, senior centers, centers for youth-at-risk and other social service organizations that support the disadvantaged, underserved and marginalized.”
The play is directed by Ten Thousand Things Theater founder Michelle Hensley
After a two-week tour in November, Measure—which stars Rob Campbell, Carson Elrod, Meg Gibson, Shalita Grant, William Jackson Harper, Jackie Sanders Hayes, Ruy Iskandar, Lanna Joffrey and Nicole Lewis—will play the historic Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square in Greenwich Village from December 6-11.
