There is no classier actor out there than Michael Caine. Even in his worst films (see below), you can still expect a dignified performance from Sir Michael, who’s been working since 1956′s Yield to the Night (I can think of many worse things than acting with Diana Dors in your first film). Tonight at Barnes & Noble Fifth Ave., the actor will be read selections from his new memoir, The Elephant to Hollywood, which discusses his career.
Here’s a little primer of his best work and, sigh, his worst:
Caine’s Five Best
#5. Batman Begins/The Dark Knight (2004/2008), Alfred!

#4. The Ipcress File (1965), #59 on the BFI’s list of the 100 Best British Films

#3. Sleuth (1972), the film’s co-star: Laurence Olivier, not Jude Law

#2. Alfie (1966), not to be confused with the Jude Law remake (again)

#1. Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor

Caine’s Five Worst
#5. Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)

#4. Bewitched (2005)

#3. How to Murder a Rich Uncle (1957)

#2. Beyond the Poseidon Adventure (1979)

#1. Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

Honorable Mention (In a good way, ’cause this movie is awesome—thank you, my former E-I-C)

Ebenezer Scrooge in The Muppet Christmas Carol, where he sings!
