Jazz Standard is proud to welcome back FLY, that leaderless collective of Mark Turner, Larry Grenadier, and Jeff Ballard currently playing at the highest level of creative improvisation and composition. “Sometimes it’s the saxophone carrying the melody, other times it’s the bass or drums,” says Turner. “We spread out the frontline duties among us.” Since the 2008 release of their second ECM album , “Fly has emerged as one of the most compellingly cohesive small groups in jazz, with a sparse but supple chemistry admired by other musicians.” (Nate Chinen, The New York Times)
