The Juvenal Players at the Kitchen
Fri23
Friday, April 23, 2010 – Saturday, April 24, 2010
About:
Inspired by the sixteen surviving satires of the classic ancient Roman poet, Juvenal (circa 1 A.D.), Pablo Helguera presents the New York premiere of The Juvenal Players, a play that merges performance and theater, addressing the crossing of boundaries in art and life, public and private spaces. Considered the father of the satirical literary genre, Juvenal’s writings functioned as a depiction of the crisis of social identity in the Roman world. Similarly self-reflective, The Juvenal Players chronicles social conflicts and nuances in the contemporary art world to interrogate our current cultural, political, and social moment and the role of art-making within it.
Directed by Pablo Helguera and Mikhael Tara Garver. Featuring performances by Tina Allen, Candace Thompson, Brian Linden, Eric Slater, and Andrea Sooch.
