An inseparable feature of Central Park, the city unveiled the 15-acre Great Lawn in 1937, built over the original site of the Croton Reservoir. In 1995 Pope John Paul II held open-air mass for 500,000 on the Great Lawn, and a few weeks later it was the site for the New York opening of the Disney movie Pocahontas.
